As the transport industry shifts toward low- and zero-emission solutions, strategic partnerships are playing an increasingly vital role in accelerating progress.

In a major step toward more sustainable mobility, DLL has joined forces with Iveco Group to amplify access to low- to zero-emission commercial vehicles through a long-term rental initiative.

Subject to regulatory approvals, DLL will acquire a majority interest in GATE, presently a fully owned subsidiary of Iveco Group. GATE facilitates access to more sustainable mobility through its rental solutions for low- and zero-emission vehicles. The formula is tailored to the customers’ specific needs, offering an extensive digital ecosystem and high-quality services through premium partners.

This Europe-focused joint venture, pending regulatory approval, reinforces DLL’s commitment to driving more sustainable transport solutions. While it does not apply to Australia or New Zealand, it showcases DLL’s expertise in transport financing, providing a model that could boost future developments in other markets.

Why This Matters for Australian Operators

According to Stephen Denlow, DLL ANZ Transport Manager, the move toward lower emission fleets is becoming an industry priority in Australia.

"Fuel costs, environmental regulations, and consumer expectations are driving operators to look for smarter, cleaner transport solutions," Stephen explains. "However, for many businesses, affordability is still a huge concern, and financing solutions offer a flexible way to transition to greener technologies without disrupting cash flow."

DLL’s partnership in Europe with Iveco Group reflects the kind of forward-thinking approach that could be applied locally, with financing and rental options making it easier for Australian transport operators to adopt low- and zero-emission vehicles at scale.

Challenges & Opportunities in the Australian Market

While decarbonisation is becoming a stronger focus in the Australian transport industry, significant barriers to adoption still exist. The upfront costs of electric and hydrogen-powered trucks, combined with infrastructure challenges, make widespread transition more difficult than in other global markets.”

"Local transport companies are facing a tricky balance between sustainability targets and commercial viability," Stephen adds. "It’s not just about making the switch; it’s about finding solutions that work within the business model while staying competitive."

Global Lessons for Local Implementation

“The successes in the sustainable transportation market across Europe suggest a growing acceptance of rental-based models for fleet electrification. As more operators consider alternative ownership structures, partnerships like DLL & Iveco Group’s joint venture provide valuable insights into how similar strategies could work for the Australian transport industry.”

"The beauty of financing and rental solutions is that they remove the biggest barrier: high capital costs," explains Stephen. "It allows companies to trial new technology, scale at their own pace, and manage financial risk while working toward sustainability goals."

The Bigger Picture for DLL in ANZ

This collaboration reinforces DLL’s global expertise in financing sustainable transport solutions. By showcasing successful international initiatives, DLL highlights its ability to provide strategic future-focused financing that enables businesses to transition without financial strain.

"When businesses see partnerships like this happening at a global level, it builds confidence in what DLL can offer," Denlow concludes. "It’s about showing that we have the experience and solutions to support transport operators here in Australia as they move toward more sustainable fleets.”
