Custom leasing solutions drive transportation forward

Industry: Transportation
Customer story

In 2013, as the European transport industry crept into economic recovery, a new roadblock appeared: the strict Euro 6 emissions standard, which added 10% to the price of a new truck. Upgrading fleets was a must for many, but financing was in short supply.

Keeping transport firms rolling
Truckland, the leading dealer of DAF Trucks in the Netherlands, says many transport firms felt the need to quickly upgrade their fleets to Euro 6 vehicles, but did not have the cash flow or lines ofTruckland credit to finance them. “The seamless partnership we have with DLL made it easy for large and small trucking operators to finance the complete package: Euro 6 trucks and their maintenance and repair services,” says Piet Hein Horstmeier, Managing Director of Truckland Zuid-Holland.

Full-service leasing solutions
In 2009, DLL and Truckland set up a joint venture to provide private label financing under the Truckland Leasing brand. “The advantage of a joint venture is that both parties share the business risk and are heavily invested in making the concept work,” says Frank Hendriks, Managing Director, Truckland Lease. Truckland’s full-service leasing solutions include financing, maintenance and repair, tires, insurance, Eurovignet, taxes, etc.

Peace of mind for customers
“Offering leasing under our own brand gives us a big advantage in the market,” says Horstmeier. ”Since 2008, our small and medium-sized customers have found it difficult to secure bank financing. With our full-service concept, they pay one fixed price for everything, in one monthly bill. That gives them a lot of peace of mind. It creates a stronger bond with our customers. Now we can talk to them about how to improve their truck’s performance or about their future plans, rather than hassling them about bills.”

Despite the economic ups and downs of the last few years, DLL finance solutions have helped Truckland put many people in the driver’s seat.

Responding quickly to change
According to Horstmeier, the close relationship with DLL helps Truckland react to market changes faster, enabling them to respond quickly to new legislation or technologies and put a concept into the market ahead of other players.

Two experts at the table
Hendriks: “Our advantage is we have two experts sitting at the table. An expert in transport and logistics technologies who knows their customer really well and has the right instincts about their business. And a financing expert who can look at the numbers and projections and customize the offer as needed.”

Prepared for the future
By offering leasing, Truckland is better prepared for the changes ahead, including driverless trucks, which are, according to Horstmeier, just around the corner. Horstmeier: “They will create two kinds of customers: large companies that can afford to invest in them and small companies that focus on local delivery services. Two kinds of customers who can benefit from leasing. With DLL, we can effectively serve them both.”
