Driving Innovation: Kyocera Document Solutions and DLL

Industry:Office Equipment

Driven by trends in automation, technology, and sustainability, the future of document transformation and printing technology is poised for significant advancements. Kyocera Document Solutions (KDS), a Japanese multinational company known for its innovative printers, multifunction systems and cloud-based software, has known this for quite some time.

With an over 60-year track record in manufacturing and selling printers, multifunctional printers (MFPs), supplying commercial and industrial printers’ parts, then more recently, document solutions, and application software, KDS has established itself as a leader in the document management sector. Today, the company offers more than 80 models of devices, both printers and multifunction, A3 and A4 formats, color and monochrome. In addition, it offers a wide range of document management solutions, including advanced technologies for scanning, digitization, and archiving.

The usage of fine ceramics in producing KDS systems ensures durability and sustainability, positioning Kyocera as a leader in providing end-users real added value: long life products, long operative cycles before standard support, and a user-friendly approach that eliminates waste in cost and timing.

In the early 2000s, as the market shifted from a predominantly sales-structured environment towards an operational leasing model, the Italian arm of the company recognized the need to pivot to gain a competitive edge. Kyocera Document Solutions Italia (KDSI) recognized the need for a strong financial partner to meet customers’ financial needs and support its dealer network across the country. And so began a partnership with DLL.

For over twenty years, KDSI has partnered with DLL to navigate the evolving financial challenges and opportunities in the document solutions sector in Italy. In February 2021, they signed a local agreement for DLL to provide channel financing to the Kyocera Italy dealer network, representing an important evolution in the partnership. Today, DLL finances Kyocera’s office and production printers in two ways: by financing Kyocera’s direct sales to customers and by supporting resellers and distributors with their sales.

The benefits of financing are numerous; it allows customers to spread their payments over a period of 24-72 months. Usually, dealers must pay for the machine upfront, but DLL’s financial support lets dealers provide customers access and experience in the latest equipment and technologies. As Alessio Di Modugno from the Sales Team at DLL, who specializes in workplace equipment financing in Italy, explains, “Large machines and equipment can be expensive. That is why we offer increased access to dealers with flexible financing solutions, allowing KDSI to sell more products.” In addition, this partnership includes a rental program where DLL buys assets from KDSI and rents them to end-users.

Initially one of several financial partners, DLL has grown to become Kyocera’s primary financial ally over the past eight years.

Responding to Market Changes

The document solutions sector is undergoing rapid change, largely driven by technological innovation and increased mergers and acquisitions. This makes it crucial for KDSI to work with a reliable and flexible financial partner who not only understands the equipment business but has a strong command of financial solutions.

KDSI has consistently used operational leasing and renting as key financial tools. This approach has provided the company with a competitive edge, allowing them to offer unique value propositions beyond just price. Today, operational leasing accounts for 90% of commercial transactions for high-value products, highlighting the importance of a competitive financing partner.

Creating Value Through Flexible Financing

Kyocera’s competitive advantage lies in its ability to offer differentiated support and services. “Creating a value offer is not easy,” shares Enrico Destro, Indirect Sales Director at KDSI. “It is necessary to differentiate and provide support others are unable to give. Thanks to DLL’s financial instruments, we’re able to offer our customers an important competitive advantage. DLL’s financing solutions are flexible, dynamic, simple to use, and supported by a dedicated team.”

Customer satisfaction is a cornerstone of Kyocera’s strategy, and this alignment has fostered a close, effective partnership focused on the needs of the customer, with value at the forefront. Annual Kyocera surveys consistently show high levels of satisfaction with DLL’s financial solutions, reflecting shared values of ethics, loyalty, passion, and transparency.

Enhancing the Document Solutions Market

Innovation is a core value for Kyocera. This commitment drives the selection of partners and the development of new or tailored financing solutions. “For us, it is essential to be innovative because this allows us to create value for our customers and our resellers. The innovative criteria is what guides the selection of our partners. That's why we chose DLL. DLL allows us to embrace ethical factors as well as develop skills and value to support common business.”

Before launching a new product, KDSI and DLL will collaborate on valuable financing offerings for dealers and end-users.

Since its founding in the 1930s, the company has evolved from an original focus on traditional printing to offering comprehensive document management solutions. While KDSI has always been involved in the printing industry, in the last two to three years, it has refocused on digital document management. The company acquired several document solutions companies worldwide, integrating technologies that range from scanning and digitization to document archiving, truly distinguishing Kyocera as a future-driven company.

A notable example of this is a national agreement signed with Associazione Nazionale Consulenti del Lavoro sindicato unitario (ANCL) in 2024, allowing KDSI to serve as an external payroll/HR processes consultant by offering a complete digital document solution that ranges from a multifunction to a document management solution software, all financed by DLL.

Driving Growth, Together

DLL and Kyocera’s relationship is built on a shared commitment to customers, from dealers to end-users. Its partnership with DLL has allowed KDSI to expand access to its leading equipment and technologies by offering comprehensive solutions financed by DLL.

Andrea Contarini affirms, “Kyocera Document Solutions Italia and DLL share the same values, ethics, loyalty, passion, and transparency. We chose DLL for a very simple reason; we share the closeness to customers which is fundamental for doing business.”
